In 2013 I made a trip to China covering the incredible Juizhaigou Valley National Park followed by a trip from Chengdu to Guilin and then a river cruise on the Li River down to Yangshuo. This book covers the latter part of this trip from Chengdu, to Guilin and then down to Yangshuo.
In Chengdu I experienced a wonderful traditional Sichuanese opera, visited the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and walked the historical streets of Kianxiangzi Alley. A side trip from Chengdu was made to the astounding Giant Buddha at Leshan and the sacred Buddhist Mount Emei.
From Guilin I visited the traditional Longi rice fields at Longsheng, walked around an interesting ancient village at Daxu, experienced the famous night scenery in Guilin and watched the traditional cormorant birds fishing.
The river boat cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo passed through some stunning scenery with iconic karst mountains on the banks of the river which looked just like a traditional Chinese painting. Yangshuo was a very interesting town and I was lucky to attend the very famous Liu San Jie Impression Light Show. I also visited some wonderful scenic areas close by such as the rural village of Yima.
This book includes photographs, videos and maps of this adventure and provides a useful resource for anyone planning a trip to Chengdu, Guilin, Li River or Yangshuo.
